You don’t always need to hire an expensive contractor to do a job, though. For example, often when a power failure occurs, it is nothing more than a blown fuse. Most home fuse boxes are located in basements or garages of homes. When you experience an outage, make sure you check and distinguish between blown fuses or melting wires. If you hire an electrician to simply repair a blown fuse, it will cost you a lot of money (including labor charges) to replace the fuse, when you can do it yourself for a few dollars.
You can check a fuse by placing a working fuse in the opening where you think that the fuse is blown. Remember to remove the fuse and return it to its original place instead of leaving the fuse in the slot, so as to avoid the danger of fire.

I swear, it doesn't matter if I'm channel surfing at 3 in the afternoon or at 3 in the morning, they're always on. Most importantly, they're always educational. Recently, I got into the house flipping business, and I've taken a liking to these shows so much I set my DVR to record them. Most of the times, when I find an episode or special particularly interesting I'll watch it several times, getting something new from it with each viewing. Luckily for me, intellectual property laws don't cover home improvement ideas!
Because I started watching all of these home improvement TV shows, I got interested in flipping houses. They made it look so easy on TV, and even when people were having troubles with their contractors and ran over budget they always seemed to make money on their investment. On of the biggest advantages to regularly watching home improvement TV shows is that you get to learn from the mistakes of others without having to actually go through them yourself. An energy credit is a tax credit - a payment made on the taxes you owe. A tax credit offers you a larger impact on your tax liability than a deduction because it is deducted from the tax money that is owed as opposed to deducting the money from the total liability. Home builders across the United States are eligible for a $2,000 tax credit per sold home. These credits will be doled out using the guidelines set up by the Department of Energy's Energy Star standards for builders that can meet the standards.
Site Built Homes
New homes have to be energy efficient homes that exceed the Energy Star standards set by the new Department of Energy for energy efficiency. The Energy Star standards are a set of guidelines that were implemented in 2004 as part of an incentive to reduce energy consumption. Site built homes are eligible to receive the credit as are manufactured homes (see below). For homes that are site built they must be built in the United States and have energy efficiency ratings of at least 50% over the guidelines that are set forth in the 2004 Energy Star Regulations. Only homes that have been built after 2005 are eligible for the tax credit. At least one fifth of the energy savings must be derived from the area of the home that is heated/cooled. The homes must pass using Department of Energy software and also have to be inspected by an independent third party inspector certified by the DOE. The home has to be ready for occupancy by December 31 of the year construction began.

Whether as an owner-builder or a contractor under a home building contract, home warranty insurance from an approved insurer is required for all residential building work exceeding $12,000.00.
If an owner-builder decides to sell the property within 6 years after completing the work, then the owner-builder must attach a copy of the home warranty insurance certificate to the contract of sale.
Under the home warranty insurance, the home owner can make a claim in respect of any:
- structural defects within 6 years after completion of the work and notification must be given to the insurer within 6 months of becoming aware of the defect;
- non-structural defects within 2 years after completion of the work;
- incomplete work within 12 months after the failure to commence the work or cessation of the work.
Obtaining home warranty insurance may also be the local authority's condition of approval of a development application.
An applicant for a contractor licence is required to provide evidence of current home warranty insurance or a current certificate of eligibility to obtain home warranty insurance from an approved insurer.
Note that developers of high-rise apartment buildings exceeding 3 stories are not required to arrange home warranty insurance for the building work nor are they required to attach a copy of the certificate to the sale contract.
A home owner can only make a claim under the home warranty insurance if the builder becomes bankrupt or insolvent, dies or cannot be located. If the insurer does not make a decision within 90 days from the date of lodgment of the claim, then the insurer is deemed to have accepted the liability. If the home owner is not happy with the insurer's decision, then the home owner must appeal to the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal within 45 days of the decision.

Whether as an owner-builder or a contractor under a home building contract, home warranty insurance from an approved insurer is required for all residential building work exceeding $12,000.00.
If an owner-builder decides to sell the property within 6 years after completing the work, then the owner-builder must attach a copy of the home warranty insurance certificate to the contract of sale.
Under the home warranty insurance, the home owner can make a claim in respect of any:
- structural defects within 6 years after completion of the work and notification must be given to the insurer within 6 months of becoming aware of the defect;
- non-structural defects within 2 years after completion of the work;
- incomplete work within 12 months after the failure to commence the work or cessation of the work.
Obtaining home warranty insurance may also be the local authority's condition of approval of a development application.
An applicant for a contractor licence is required to provide evidence of current home warranty insurance or a current certificate of eligibility to obtain home warranty insurance from an approved insurer.
Note that developers of high-rise apartment buildings exceeding 3 stories are not required to arrange home warranty insurance for the building work nor are they required to attach a copy of the certificate to the sale contract.
A home owner can only make a claim under the home warranty insurance if the builder becomes bankrupt or insolvent, dies or cannot be located. If the insurer does not make a decision within 90 days from the date of lodgment of the claim, then the insurer is deemed to have accepted the liability. If the home owner is not happy with the insurer's decision, then the home owner must appeal to the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal within 45 days of the decision.

Dimensions of bird houses include entrance-hole, height, depth, and floor size. Smaller birds like wren and chickadees usually prefer 4x4 floor size and a reasonable 8" depth. Consult a bird book or the internet for information regarding the measurements of your bird house.
Third, it is better to use untreated wood and lumber for bird houses. Aside from mimicking the birds' natural habitat, natural wood also minimizes risks of poisoning and overheating. Treated and processed wood like plywood contains preservatives like formaldehyde, which poses serious health hazards to your feathered friends. Lumber that is classified as pressure-treated often contain toxic chemicals which can poison the nesting birds. Paint is also a no-no. Chipping paint can be mistaken by the bird for food and eat it.
